Switch back! climate campaign launched

Budapest, October 15, 2008

The Switch Back! program against climate change was launched on October 1 with the involvement of Magyar Telekom. For a whole year on the www.vegyelvissza.hu site you can measure and calculate how much earth resources you use and what you can do to halt climate change.

The rules of the team game are very simple. The registered teams can participate in as many tasks as they wish and they can even submit challenges themselves. The tasks will be set and the entries will be judged by the expert team of the Switch Back campaign and prominent representatives of the Hungarian civil sphere (WWF, Greenpeace, Association of Conscious Consumers, Hungarian Society of Conservationists, Waste Prevention Alliance) will also be involved. In addition to a prize, the best entrants will also be given the opportunity to introduce themselves because the main goal is to make them known to as many people as possible.

The aim of the climate campaign is to mobilize people for action because everybody should do something to halt the climate change. Even if it is only sharing thoughts, listing the causes and finding possible solutions. The program addresses the new generation, the future decision-makers: climate change is an urgent problem and we must make joint efforts against it, and change begins with the change of attitude.

The game itself takes place on the www.vegyelvissza.hu site where the entries of the teams can be viewed and the best ones can also be watched live – the next presentation will be in the Millennáris Park on November 21, 2008. The description of the first four climate campaign tasks is available on the site, and you can also register there for participation in the Climate Campaign. The deadline for the submission of entries is November 14, 2008.

The Switch Back! anti-climate change program was created in March 2008 as a joint effort of Magyar Telekom Plc., Ringier Publishers, Vertis Környezetvédelmi Pénzügyi Tanácsadó Zrt. and Amrop Hever. They welcome cooperation and support for their work from companies, public and non-governmental organizations that consider it their duty to take action against climate change.
