On December 1, 1999 MATÁV is reintroducing its Internet-based telephone service that makes international calls 20-50% cheaper than the standard rate: for example, a one-minute call to Austria costs HUF 72 gross, to Western Europe, the United States and Australia HUF 95 gross and to China and Vietnam HUF 260 gross.

On December 1, 1999 MATÁV is reintroducing its improved IP Tel card service. The new service offers much better voice quality and more attractive rates than the experimental service last year. At present, international calls are the cheapest if made on this card. You can phone all countries of the world at very good rates with the Matáv IP Tel card and with the roaming function the card is suitable for calling back to Hungary from 15 countries at the Hungarian IP Tel rates. MATÁV is treating December 1999 as an introductory period and gives users an additional 15% discount on the IP Tel rates till December 31, 1999.

Neither monthly, nor one-time or call set up fees are attached to the new MATÁV service and you are not even required to sign an agreement to use it. The traffic made on the card can be continuously, and without any extra charge, monitored on the Internet with the help of a personal password. The IP Tel card is available in MATÁV Pont shops.
