Symmetrical Internet

MT‘s Symmetrical Internet Access product family enables Partner Providers to provide symmetrical internet service to their end-users. The Symmetrical Internet Access product family is available for Partner Providers (ISP) in the following forms:

  • MT Symmetrical Internet Access service with Connect option
  • MT Symmetrical Internet Access service with Connect-route option (with managed CE router)
  • MT Symmetrical Internet Access service with Transport option
  • MT Symmetrical Internet Access service with Transport-route option (with managed CE router)

Access types used for the provision of MT Symmetrical Internet Access product family:

  • optical access
  • copper-based access

MT concludes a contract with Partner Providers for these services, while the Partner Providers directly conclude contract with their end-users who identify the access points for installation. (The Partner Provider keeps direct contact with end-users rather than MT.)

MT Symmetrical Internet Access service with Transport and Transport-route optionBoth products collect the traffic of end-users and directly transport is to the Partner Provider’s central premises. With the Transport-route service option MT installs a router at the access points and manages it.

MT Symmetrical Internet Access service with Connect and Connect-route optionBoth products collect the traffic of end-users and directly transport is to the international and national peering points and the IP addresses within the MT network. With the Connect-route service option MT installs a router at the access points and manages it.

Other specific features of the Symmetrical Internet Access service

  • With the use of Transport products the Partner Providers pays an extra charge for the connection between the Partner Provider and MT‘s transport point. (Additionally to provide internet service the Partner Provider needs to have a BIX and international internet connection to transport the collected traffic to the internet.)
  • With the use of Connect products the Partner Provider does not need to have separate BIX and international internet connection, it is included in the MT service.
  • Upon request the Partner Provider’s national exchange can be connected to the Service Provider’s IP network through a direct connection, this is installed under a dedicated contract, this connection is not included in the service.
  • Connect products are „best effort” based -  the traffic of End-users using the service is transported on a „best effort” basis – which means that the international and national peering capacities are shared by the end-users of all Partner Providers using this service. The Partner Provider using this service does not automatically receive an independent AS (Autonomous System) number and dedicated IP address domain from the service.
  • IP address domain
The Service Provider provides IP address for the WAN interface of the Partner Provider’s router. The Partner Provider has to provide IP address domain for the LAN interface.
Magyar Telekom optionally provides IP address domain for the LAN interface for an extra charge when requested by the Partner Provider. The minimum address domain that can be ordered is a so-called /24 address domain, smaller domain is not provided by MT, larger address domains can be ordered by Partner Providers from MT in /24 blocks.
