Frequently asked questions
-
Do I have to register to
participate in the IPv6 test?
Yes, you can register at
the
IPv6
Registration page
with the username and
password belonging to the traditional internet service. If you also want to set
up a home IPv6 network, in order to ensure the required address range, during
the registration please also specify the so called DUID of the host computer
(initiating the IPv6 PPPoE connection) at the „IP address range required” field. Further information on
installation and usage conditions is available at the
IPv6-networks
presentation page
and the
T-Home forum dealing with IPv6 testing,
furthermore in the
user instructions.
-
What devices are
required to participate in the IPv6 test?
Devices provided by
Magyar Telekom: Pirelli DRG A225G and Thomson SpeedTouch 780 type digital home
gateways are capable of using the service but, additionally, IPv6 connections
can also be established using Netgear DG834 and Linksys WRT54G sets, distributed
by Magyar Telekom earlier. Further information on compatible devices and
software versions and a description of the required settings is available in
the
user instructions.
-
What computer operating
system is required to use the IPv6 service?
IPv6 PPPoE calls can
only be initiated from a computer that runs Microsoft Windows Vista, Microsoft
Windows 7, or Unix/Linux distribution operating system. Check your
user instructions for further details.
ATTENTION: since the traditional
internet connection (PPPoE) is initiated by a home networking device (such as
Magyar Telekom owned digital home gateway or privately owned DSL router), this
device have also to be able to support PPPoE pass-through function. Further
information on compatible devices and software versions and a description of
the required settings is available in the
user instructions.
-
Is it possible to use
the IPv6 service without a digital home gateway or router?
If the traditional
internet connection (PPPoE connection) is initiated from the customer’s
computer, then two PPPoE connections should be initiated concurrently from the
same computer. The operating system that runs on the computer initiating the IPv4
and IPv6 PPPoE connection in this case can only be a Unix/Linux distribution. Check
your
user instructions for further details on
exact settings.
-
Can I use the IPv6
connection on more than one computers at the same time?
Yes, but in this case a
home IPv6 network is to be set up. In such cases the host computer (IPv6
Gateway) establishing the IPv6 PPPoE connection
and shares its IPv6 connectivity with other connected computers. Check your
user instructions for further details on
exact settings. Remember that in this
case the so called DUID of the host computer should be registered in advance at
the
IPv6 Registration page at the „IP address range
required” field.
-
Can the IPv6 service be
used with Windows XP operating system?
Windows XP cannot be
used to establish an IPv6 capable PPPoE connection, therefore it cannot be used
as a host computer (initiating the IPv6 PPPoE connection). The IPv6 service can
only be used with Windows XP operating system (i) if the TCP/IP version 6
protocol is installed and allowed, and (ii) if it is connected to a home IPv6 network
set up according to the
user instructions.
-
Can the IPv6 service be
used through a wireless (WiFi / WLAN) connection?
The IPv6 service can
also be accessed using a computer connected via wireless connection established
with the Magyar Telekom owned digital devices described in the
user instructions. If you want to connect
to the IPv6 service with one computer, then – if you have the appropriate
operating system – this computer initiates the IPv6 PPPoE connection. If you
want to use more wirelessly connected computers to access the IPv6 service then
a home IPv6 network, set up according to the
user instructions is needed, where the
IPv6 connection - established by the host computer (initiating the IPv6 PPPoE connectivity)
with wireline connection to the digital gateway - is shared and works properly.
-
What should I do if I
have the right software version but using the Thomson SpeedTouch 780 digital
home gateway the IPv6 service still does not work?
o use in the IPv6 test-service
the 6.2.29.2 (Software Variant: FG) or a later software version is required (see
your
user instructions on how to check the
software version). If the device runs a software version older than required or
the right software is installed but the service is still unavailable, please
report this at the 1722 telephone number under the internet fault report menu
item.
-
What
should I do if, using Windows Vista operating system, I get an 815 error
message during the PPPoE call?
The „PPPoE Pass Through”
function (PPPoE-PT or PPPoE Relay) should also be allowed on the digital home
gateway (see the
user instructions for further details). If the PPPoE-PT is
allowed and the service is still unavailable, then the problem is probably
related to the Microsoft Windows operating system, and further information can
be found at the following pages or the Microsoft Tech Support page:

-
What should I do if,
using Windows 7 operating system, I get a 651 error message during the PPPoE
call?
The „PPPoE Pass Through”
function (PPPoE-PT or PPPoE Relay) should also be allowed on the digital home
gateway (see the
user instructions for further details). If the PPPoE-PT is
allowed and the service is still unavailable, then the problem is probably
related to the Microsoft Windows operating system, and further information can
be found at the following pages:

-
What should I do if in
the home IPv6 network, set up according to the user instructions, everything works properly from the host
computer (initiating the connection) , but the service is not available on the
computer running Windows XP operating system, connected earlier to the digital
gateway?
The version 6 Internet
Protocol is not installed in the Windows XP operating system as a default,
therefore this should be first installed and allowed according to the
user instructions. If the service still
does not work then the problem is probably related to the Microsoft software, and
it is advised to disconnect the computer running Windows XP from the network
for a short time by unplugging the cable or breaking the wireless connection.
-
What should I do if the IPv6
connection of my computer and the home IPv6 network are set up according to the
user instructions, but the service does not work?
In this case first you
should check the settings of the firewall integrated in the operating system or
installed on your computer, to see whether or not the applied rules allow IPv6
traffic to go through or any other protocol required for the connection to be
used. If all IPv6 traffic and protocols are allowed and the problem still
persists, assistance can be required from the operating system vendor or
further useful information can be found at the
T-Home forum
dealing with IPv6
testing.
