Today, a 6-channel electrocardiograph machine
worth HUF 870,000 was handed over by Béla Pongrácz, Head of Matáv's
Sopron Regional Office to the high-priority public benefit organization
"Health Care for the Town of Tatabánya". Matáv contributed HUF 700,000
to the purchase of this equipment nowadays considered indispensable in
cardiology. Matáv as a responsible corporate citizen deems it extremely
important to use its donation activities as a tool for supporting
health and welfare organizations in need, expressing in this way its
awareness of social and community problems.

The
high-priority public benefit organization "Health Care for the Town of
Tatabánya" requested the help of Matáv's Donation Board for the
purchase of a 6-channel electrocardiograph machine; in view of the
purpose (therapy, treatment and prevention of cardiovascular diseases),
the request was approved by the Board.
Coronary sclerosis (arrhythmia, cardiac infarction and resulting early
cardiac death) is an endemic disease of our age. Nowadays
electrocardiographs play an indispensable role in diagnosing such
problems and monitoring the activity of the cardiac muscle.
Matáv's high-priority donation areas are as follows:
- Therapy, treatment and prevention of cardiovascular diseases
- Health promoting and disease prevention programs, with special attention to oncological diseases
- Treatment of communications problems (speech disorders, hearing defects)
- Sport activities of the handicapped
- Cultural initiatives of disadvantaged towns/villages
- Health problems of children
- Telephone help-lines
The treatment and prevention of cardiovascular diseases are always in the focus of attention when grants are awarded. This year, donations were made among others to the following organizations addressing such issues:
- Heart to Heart Foundation, Szent János Hospital
- Health Care of Tatabánya – Szent Borbála Hospital
- Open Heart Association of Zala County
- Alarm Foundation – Siófok Hospital
- Ambulance Foundation of Kaposvár
- High-priority public benefit organization "Health Care for the Town of Tatabánya"
In 2002, Matáv's support for disadvantaged and socially needy children totaled HUF 75 million.
