The Figyelő Top 200 listings, published mid-October, ranked Matáv as the best Hungarian enterprise in three categories. Based on its 2003 results, Matáv was classified as the Hungarian enterprise posting the highest operating profit, having the biggest own equity and being the most successful telecommunications service provider. In addition, Matáv was listed second in the respect of earnings before taxes.

The Figyelő publication emphasized that in the past years the Matáv Group successfully maintained its leading positions in telecommunications, despite the fact that liberalization created sharp competition in many respects. Chairman-CEO Elek Straub stressed that broadband services held out the most promising future, so Matáv's ADSL customers will reach 400 000 by the end of 2006.
