In mid-September, the 20 millionth program was downloaded
from the [origo] Software Base launched five years ago. The popularity of the
website has been continuously firm and increasing; at present, the daily number
of visitors has reached 20,000 with 15,000-20,000 files downloaded each day.
User programs and games are the most popular targets, but the highest download
figures appear at the special anti-virus programs.

In 1999, Software Basis was launched with "only" a
thousand software products; by now its visitors can find more than 7200 files in
an increasing number of categories, providing a unique choice on the Hungarian
market. As a result of these facts, in the past years the number of visitors has
reached 20,000 and the number of downloaded pages 200,000. Based on its
increasing popularity, it has been included in the [origo] "TechBázis" section;
ever since that time, it has been reliably meeting a constantly growing demand
of visitors looking for software products.
At present, users can search
in a daily updated choice comprising 12 categories; these include games, drivers
and anti-virus programs. The site responds to new demand on an ongoing base; for
example, the special category "Windows XP" was added recently. Close to 20% of
the downloadable files are freeware, 80% shareware (prepared for test purposes)
or demo versions.
