Budapest,
Branford Marsalis draws on the jazz styles of the 50s and 60s, but as
one of the greatest revivers of modern jazz he has created a new
musical style which is highly popular with the public.
The Hungarian audience could see him first in 1988 along with Sting;
his long and fruitful cooperation with the world famous musician
started in that year. In 1999 he appeared in Budapest for the second
time, with his own jazz quartet.
Branford Marsalis is also successful in classical music. In 1986 he
made his first solo record with a symphony orchestra, performing
classical arrangements, titled Romances for Saxophone. In 2001 he
published his second classical record with the works of French
composers, under the title of Création.
The October concert is unique in several respects, as the artist is
traveling to Budapest not in the frame of of a concert tour but just
for this special occasion, and he will be giving a joint concert with
the Magyar Telekom Symphony Orchestra. The program for the concert will
include Ravel’s La Valse and Rhapsody for orchestra and saxophone, as
well as Iber’s Concertino da Camera, Debussy’s La Mer, and compositions
by Mahler and Vaughan Williams. The concert will be conducted by András
Ligeti.
Solo tickets are on sale for the October concert from July 7 in the
following ticket offices: Palace of Arts, Concert & Media ticket
offices and in the ticket office in Nagymező utca.
