Over 36 million SMS in six days

Budapest, January 5, 2007

Looking at the SMS and MMS traffic at T-Mobile at Christmas and New Year, mobile phones played a key role in sending season’s greetings to friends and family. An all-time T-Mobile SMS and MMS record was broken in the six-day period covering December 24, 25, 26, 30, 31, 2006, and January 1, 2007; because the subscribers of the country’s biggest mobile operator sent in all 36.4 million short text messages.

This figure is more than 5 million higher than in the same period of last year. The two busiest days were December 24 and 31, on the former T-Mobile customers launched 12.4 million, and on the latter 11 million SMS. This amounted to 6-7 times the traffic of an average day.
MMS is also getting increasingly popular. On December 24 T-Mobile customers sent 4.5 times more and on New Year’s Eve 3 times more multimedia messages than on other days, to wish their friends and family a merry Christmas and a happy New Year.
