Matáv is going to introduce its ADSL service

The new service family of MATÁV called NetExpressz, based on ADSL and ATM technology, providing fast Internet access is going to be introduced for the retail shop network as of September 01, 2000.
The ADSL technology on which NetExpressz is based makes suitable the
existing, copper wire telephone lines (dial-up and ISDN) for using the
Internet at a speed even 20 times higher than previously. On the other
hand the considerable transmission capacities required for the service
offered to the large number of users is ensured by the high speed ATM
platform of MATÁV. By making use of the new service the computers
installed at home or in the office or even a local network can be
connected to the telephone line.
The ADSL based NetExpressz service can be used without
disturbing the telephone service operating on the same subscriber line,
therefore always-on Internet access - similar to the use of Internet
over a leased line - becomes possible.
Since a new service is introduced MATÁV intends to provide it in
the initial phase built on the already tried and tested ISDN. Taking
this aspect into account the NetExpressz service will be available for
the time being within given areas of Budapest, with an existing MATÁV
ISDN subscription.
According to the various user profiles the elements of
NetExpressz service family differ in the maximum transmission rate and
in the number of PCs that can be connected:

The introduction of the new service family will presumably accelerate
the spreading of teleworking and distance learning in Hungary, and the
possibilities offered by content services, electronic commerce and
e-marketing will also widen to a great extent.
The new service has a major impact on the competitiveness of our
country, and can be considered as a further step in laying the
foundations of the information society.
Annex
The following table shows only the NetExpressz access fees, telephone
subscription and usage fees and Internet content tariffs are not
included in it.
The
fee to be paid for the NetExpressz service comprises a one-off and a
monthly fee item, irrespective of the amount of information transmitted
and the duration of use.
