Thanks to the Matáv service called "Relocation with number retention" launched in July 2004, customers can now retain their Matáv telephone number if changing residence within the same tariff zone.

Meeting the provisions of the Act on Electronic Communication, Matáv has been providing number portability service between operators since January 1, 2004. This means that if the customer changes operators without changing his geographic location, he can retain his old telephone number. In an effort to meet customer demand, Matáv has now launched a new commercial service which enables residential and business customers to retain their old telephone number also if they move residence or premises within the same tariff zone (primary area). The one-time fee of the relocation of the telephone number with number retention will be HUF 6000 gross for analog lines, and HUF 9000 gross for ISDN2 connection from August 1, 2004. The relocation of the telephone line can also be requested without number retention; in this case the applicable fees are HUF 2000 gross for an analog line and HUF 5000 gross for an ISDN2 connection.
