Once again a health care institution will enjoy the support of the "Matáv gives back" program, and the modern, essential life-saving equipment this will bring. This time it is the Baranya County Hospital's cardiology, surgery and internal medicine department that will receive a grant of two million Forints as part of Matáv's social commitment program. The donation was presented by Mr. Gyula Szabó, head of the "Matáv gives back" today in Pécs to Dr. Zoltán Horváth director general of the hospital.

Thanks to its unique social commitment program, called "Matáv gives back", Matáv distributes cash donations amounting to 110 million Forints every year through various foundations, and associations, primarily to provide support to the solution of problems experienced in the health care system, as well as to the disadvantaged. As the latest step in this exemplary initiative the Baranya County Hospital in Pécs today received a donation of two million Forints.

This will allow the procurement of a six-channel ECG device at the cardiology department, a Cryo-probe, as well as a vein-doppler unit at the surgery department, plus a suction device, and a personal computer system at the internal medicine department. It was the Bone-Marrow Transplant Foundation that submitted a successful application to the "Matáv gives back" program's Board of Trustees at the beginning of the year. The Foundation was established in April 2003 with the purpose of facilitating life-saving bone-marrow transplant operations, along with the provision of both material, and equipment support for healthcare institutions involved in other areas, all over Hungary.

"The healthcare system in Hungary is faced with financial problems, this is why there is such a great need for material support from society, as well as the business world, along with non-governmental co-operation. We are indeed happy to see that there is a responsibly thinking major company in Hungary which is willing to provide assistance," said Mrs. Gyula Kállai, Chairperson of the Bone-Marrow Transplant Foundation. Matáv and the Foundation looks back on previous co-operation; in 2003 a grant of two million Forints made it possible for the Foundation to purchase a special blood bag sealing unit, as well as two IV fluid warmers for the department at the Szent László Hospital.

"Solving the problems of the healthcare system is an issue that concerns society as a whole. We are of the firm belief that economic players as significant as Matáv have to contribute to the resolution of these problems with serious, and tangible help," said Mr. Gyula Szabó, Matáv's representative at the presentation ceremony.
