Matáv - NIOK joint tender: Free ADSL access for non-governmental organizations

The "Matáv Gives Back” program is inviting a competition with the involvement of the Non-profit Information and Education Center (NIOK) with the objective to develop the telecommunications opportunities of non-profit organizations. Under this program Matáv will provide free ADSL access to 500 non-governmental organizations for one year.

The objective of the competition invited by Matáv's corporate social responsibility program, the "Matáv Gives Back" program and NIOK Foundation is to develop the infrastructure of non-governmental organizations and improve their possibilities for communication. Under this program Matáv will provide free ADSL access to the competition winners for one year to ensure broadband Internet communication for 500 organizations. ADSL service will be installed and operated and the www.nonprofit.hu services will be provided for the competition winners free of charge in 2005.

Matáv as responsible social player contributes annually almost HUF 100 million to solving social (health, welfare) problems. "Our objective with the invitation of the ADSL competition was to ensure that non-governmental organizations can expend the money saved with the help of our contribution for the benefit of the needy. Additionally with the help of broadband Internet they can communicate their activities and have fast access to information," said Gyula Szabó, leader of the “Matáv Gives Back” program, commenting on the competition invitation.

From November 17 to November 29, 2004 any non-governmental organization (foundation, association) registered in Hungary and having fixed-line Matáv subscription and computer with which ADSL access can be used, can submit an application on a form downloaded from the www.nonprofit.hu/adslpalyazat website. The application must include presentation of the organization's activities conducted so far and future plans, as well as its plans for using the ADSL access. Applicants will be notified on the award in December 2004 by e-mail. Applications complying with the requirements for form submitted by the competition deadline will be judged by professionals, decision on the award will be made by a committee composed of members invited by the NIOK Foundation and Matáv. The list of winning applicants will be published on the www.nonprofit.hu/adslpalyazat website from December 17, 2004.
