Magyar Telekom gears up for the Hungarian eHealth market

Budapest, May 11, 2011 10:45

Magyar Telekom will exhibit its new, innovative healthcare and prevention services at the biggest European healthcare event, the eHealth Week. Telekom is a gold level supporter of the "IT World of Healthcare" exhibition and conference where, together with its mother company, Deutsche Telekom and its subsidiary, ISH Informatika Kft., will present three of its newly developed e-health solutions including the product Fetaphon which plays a life saving role in the home monitoring of the fetal heart sound.

Róbert Pataki, Chief Strategy and Business Development Officer said: "With the involvement of infocommunication technologies such cost efficient and modern solutions may be established that can significantly contribute to a better service for customers and can make the work of the healthcare experts easier. To satisfy real demands, the development of Magyar Telekom's "end-to-end" e-healthcare products was preceded by thorough research and preparation with the involvement of healthcare experts and physicians."

Magyar Telekom is already more than a traditional infocommunication service provider. The company's goal is to make the lives of existing and new customers easier with the provision of innovative services. In relation to the above goal in recent years Magyar Telekom entered - amongst others - the energy and the insurance market. Another important part of people's lives is healthcare. In recent years Magyar Telekom tested several healthcare services in the market. Within the frame of the T-City project in Szolnok, a new Panic Button service was introduced, that helps elderly or ill people in the case of a healthcare emergency. Besides, Magyar Telekom offers a Family Health Package to its customers that includes 7/24 medical call center availability and second opinion services.

Magyar Telekom will present the following new healthcare products and services at the eHealth Week:

  • Fetaphon: Approximately every fifth pregnancy is considered to be risky. Although these pregnancies do not necessarily represent an acute risk to the health of the woman or the unborn, this classification means that there is reason to monitor the pregnancy in a particularly intensive manner. Using Fetaphon it is now possible for pregnant women to carry out a cardiotocographic test (CTG) independently at home, i.e. to measure and record the heart rate of the fetus or fetuses for multiple pregnancies. The device records the heartbeats acoustically without affecting the fetus or the mother. Fetaphon is also appropriate for use in normal pregnancies where the device has an additional control function. The women only need brief instructions. In addition, future parents can measure and listen to the heart beat as often as they wish. A measurement takes around 20 minutes. For this the woman places two frequency meters on her abdomen. After the measurement the data is sent directly to a tele-medicine center via the mobile phone network. The data is visualized there using software. A team of doctors analyzes and assesses the data before informing the women about the findings. If complications occur, the doctors can contact the woman immediately and discuss the further approach.

  • Mobil e-Health assistant service is a logistic IT solution based on interactive mobile technology which assist orientation of the patient within the health institution, by providing various types of logistic and health information and supplementary services to the patients. On arrival in the health institution the patient obtains information about the site of the medical examination, consultation, the number of waiting patients, the length and change of the waiting time. Furthermore, the patient will be informed about the health institution, the practitioners, about the diseases relevant for the patient, prevention and the process of the particular medical checks. The system to be developed will provide a platform for exchange of the properly customized and relevant medical information.

  • PraxisPlatform is a patient information system based on automated communication, which interlinks and supports participants of healthcare: patients, physicians and pharmacists as well as manufacturers of medicines and medical appliances. Besides, it is also possible for medical associations and sponsors to join the system. The system enables manufacturers of medicines and medical appliances to foster awareness, by providing value-added services, about their products among those who take these medicines or use medical appliances.

In 2009 Magyar Telekom acquired the 100% business share of International System House (ISH) Kft., that develops hospital applications. Since December 1, 2009 - upon the approval of the Competition Office - ISH Informatika Kft. operates as a subsidiary of Magyar Telekom Group, under the professional auspices of the Business Solutions Business Unit (T-Systems).
