Smart metering cooperation between E.ON and Magyar Telekom

Budapest, February 9, 2012 11:00

Leading energy and telecommunication industry representatives E.ON Hungaria Zrt and Magyar Telekom embarked upon,   early this year, a joint smart metering sample project in the framework of which they launched into operation a new technological system, which is a   a pioneering initiative in Hungary   in   both its function and volume. The aim of this system is to measure public utility consumption and to optimize the process of settlement.

The main aim of the first phase of the program, which is implemented in a real user environment in the first half of 2012, is to test technological solutions. This will be followed by the examination of innovative supplementary functions that may provide useful experience and information for both consumers and energy vendors.

The joint project of E.ON Hungaria Zrt and Magyar Telekom may extend valuable information for the broad implementation of smart metering and also help the establishment of the regulatory background of smart metering in Hungary.

The technical system developed for the purpose of smart metering is expected to be launched into operation in March in Szolnok. E.ON Hungaria Zrt. and Magyar Telekom will continue to provide regular information about the project phases planned in the future as well as the expected outcomes. The sample project is implemented with the supervision of the Hungarian Energy Office.
