More than one million customers on T-Mobile’s mobile internet – Most popular packages offer high bandwidth and great data transmission volumes

Budapest, February 10, 2012 10:00

The number of our customers using T-Mobile’s mobile internet service has exceeded one million, while the market share in terms of all mobile internet subscriptions increased to 48.7%. This means that almost every second Hungarian mobile internet user is served by the market leader service provider.
The popularity of the Net&Roll tariff package, which offers super-high-speed mobile internet and has already been chosen by 16 thousand customers since last summer, shows that an increasing number of users demand high bandwidth and larger data transmission volumes. The monthly data traffic of subscribers choosing the Net&Roll tariff package is almost four times as much as that of mobile internet users opting for traditional tariff packages.

Partly due to the large-scale mobile network modernization started in May 2011, more and more users choose T-Mobile’s mobile internet service. By the end of last year, the market leader service provider had more than one million customers who connected their PCs, laptops or mobile devices to the net through the mobile internet service, and its market share, in terms of all mobile internet subscriptions, increased to 48.7%.

As one of the results achieved by the network development continued in 2012, close to 600 locations have been covered in Hungary by the HSPA+ mobile internet service, offering a nominal download speed of 21Mbps,* and on the first day of 2012, T-Mobile launched its 4G/LTE-based mobile internet service, currently available to 40% of Budapest’s population. Triggered by the introduction of technologies enabling higher bandwidths than before (HSPA+, 4G/LTE), T-Mobile started to offer its residential mobile internet service in a new tariff package structure last year. In the new structure, the service provider differentiates, based on the relevant bandwidth, tariff packages mainly aimed at browsing and e-mailing versus the super-high-speed mobile internet tariff packages recommended for intensive internet usage.

Magyar Telekom’s Chief Marketing Officer, István Király said, „The success of the Net&Roll tariff packages proves that an increasing number of customers need higher bandwidth and larger data volumes. It was a good decision when last summer we introduced new mobile internet tariff packages and a new, bandwidth-based, tariff package structure. Our experience shows that customers using the high-speed packages transmit close to four times as much data as the ones using the traditional packages.”

T-Mobile introduced the Net&Roll M and L tariff packages attached to the super-high-speed HSPA+ mobile internet service, offering nominal download speeds of 21 Mbps, last August. On the first day of 2012, with the launch of the first commercial 4G/LTE-based mobile internet service in Hungary, the Net&Roll 4G tariff package was added to the existing range of Net&Roll tariff packages. During the nearly half year period, 16 thousand customers, connecting their laptops or PCs to the net through mobile internet, have chosen the Net&Roll tariff packages, thus being offered even higher data traffic speeds.
