The Hungarian Football Federation (MLSZ) and Magyar Telekom have signed a comprehensive agreement today, under which Telekom becomes one of the chief supporters of the men’s national football team and will also assume an important role in the area of recruiting the new generation and the popularisation of amateur and youth football.

Telekom has been a committed supporter of Hungarian sports for several decades and considers sports to be a decisive part of its sponsoring strategy. The company is proud that it has been able to contribute to the outstanding success of a number of Hungarian sports and athletes as a sponsor. Telekom gives support in many countries at the international level for football, as one of the most popular sports most widely pursued actively and mobilising several generations. The latest milestone of the international commitment to football and its quality promotion is the agreement signed today, with which Telekom backs the sport which is the most popular in Hungary too.

Under the agreement signed with MLSZ for a period of close to two years Telekom will not only support Hungarian professional football, but intends to create new possibilities and environment for children and youth who pursue football at amateur or professional levels, thus promoting a healthy and active way of life.

“It is a great honour that as the latest member of the pool of official supporters of MLSZ Magyar Telekom will also specially contribute in the future to having our junior and adult teams perform successfully. The cooperation now announced will help us in ensuring the background for more successful performance by Hungarian teams. The leadership of MLSZ has confidence in the result of the strategic developments embarked upon and highly appreciates the fact that an increasing number of major market players are undertaking to support the program and, through it, Hungarian football as a whole,” said Dr. Sándor Csányi, President of MLSZ.

“Telekom is committed to supporting community events and experiences that are important for the Hungarian public while it is also our aim that several millions of our customers should be able to enjoy quality and outstanding sports and musical experiences whether live or through our services. We hope that with the complex support we have agreed upon today we can give further impetus to the recovery of Hungarian football and generate experiences that can be shared by millions of young and adult Hungarian football fans,” declared Christopher Mattheisen, Magyar Telekom’s chairman-CEO.
Through the sponsoring agreement Telekom will not only contribute to the effectiveness of the national teams, but—in addition to the hoped for successes of the national teams—offer possibilities and surprises for the young and older actively following football events, playing football as a hobby or in a federation, as well as cheering in front of the TV. The plans include the organisation, jointly with MLSZ, of national tournaments and events with the involvement of tens of thousands of children who play football in a federation or at school.

In addition, Telekom and MLSZ also plan to set up cooperation related to content provision, which, building on the successes of the national teams will tap the possibilities inherent in the three-screen (TV, computer and mobile phone) offers of mobile and television services for Telekom’s customers.
