We strive to decrease the energy consumption of the Group, and buy 100% of the electric power we use from renewable sources. As a result of our PSTN replacement project launched in 2014, we migrated our customers to a modern IP network, which is sustainable in the long run, to thus decrease our annual electricity consumption.
The Group remained carbon-neutral in 2015 and 2016, which is largely due to the fact that we buy 100% of the electric power we use from renewable sources. Our foremost objective remains to further improve our energy efficiency and to significantly decrease the use of fossil energy, parallel to using an increasing ratio of renewable energy.
As a result of our PSTN replacement project launched in 2014 we migrated our PSTN/ISDN customers to a modern IP network built on MSAN technology by the end of 2016, by that enabling us to decrease Telekom’s annual electricity consumption by as much as 10%.
Magyar Telekom has consciously addressed the optimization of energy consumption for years, which effort was further strengthened by the fact that we introduced and obtained an ISO 50000 certification on our energy management system in 2016.
