Digital Bridge

Magyar Telekom launched the “Digital Bridge in Small Settlements” and the “Digital Bridge Fest Program” in 2004 to raise awareness on the accomplishments as well as the opportunities offered by info-communication technologies in areas where the digital rift is present and over time may deepen into a divide. Within the frame of the program we organized more than 200 events.

The purpose of Magyar Telekom's Digital Bridge Program is to increase awareness on the achievements and the opportunities offered by information and communication technologies in regions where the digital rift is present and over time may deepen into a divide.

Digital divide is the name used for the phenomenon of different groups of society having different chances to access information technologies (due to geographical location, social or other reasons). Magyar Telekom, in line with its commitment to sustainable development, strives to close the digital divide and spread the advantages offered by information and communication technologies. For economic development in this age, it is crucial to access information and communication technologies. The transformation of social relations and communication makes it important for us to get familiar with new technologies and the opportunities offered by them. Thus, by way of offering better opportunities to communicate, we enable the connection of individuals and to unite society.

Digital Bridge in Small Settlements

The purpose of Magyar Telekom's Digital Bridge at Small Settlements Program, launched in 2004, is to tackle digital differences and to increase awareness of the achievements and the opportunities offered by information and communication technologies in regions where the digital rift is present. The main focus points of the program is small settlements where the improvement of information and communication skills may enhance local and regional development. The objective is to familiarize residents of rural settlements and settlements with only few residents with the internet and the opportunities offered by info-communication services to help people's everyday lives. Those who are interested in the program are helped and assisted by Magyar Telekom’s volunteers with customized coaching and advice at the respective locations.

Digital Bridge Fest

In 2009 the Digital Bridge at Small Settlements Program was supplemented by a new element. At Digital Bridge Fest events Magyar Telekom volunteers continue to educate the inhabitants to use the internet as part of the program, thereby promoting to close the digital divide. Additionally, a talent contest is held by a popular artist, Peter Novak, where the winners are offered the opportunity to perform for a live audience and through the internet.

At the same time the Digital Bridge Fest helps to create communities as it is organized within the frame of a local program or an own event thus giving an opportunity to the community to meet and to enrich their lives with new experience.
