A single subscription for multiple devices: MultiSIM has arrived!

Budapest, November 13, 2018 13:00

All our smart devices can be merged into a single subscription, and they can still be used with independent SIMs – that is what Magyar Telekom offers for the first time on the domestic market. MultiSIM supports traditional SIM cards and eSIMs as well.

The Hungarian telecommunication sector has arrived at yet another milestone: from November 6, 2018, mobile internet and voice services can be used with a single subscription, on multiple SIM cards – this means that we are able to use our smart devices with much more favorable conditions and in a more simple and comfortable manner.

According to data from Gemius, already more than half of mobile phones are smartphones, while a quarter of the population use tablets. According to data from Cisco, by 2020 each inhabitant of the Earth shall use seven net connected devices, mobile net modems, sports gear or smart watches, while in Central European countries this number will be 4 devices per inhabitant.

The MultiSIM service is the first on the Hungarian market to offer a construction that was tailored to the requirements of the digital world and the Internet of Things (IoT). With MultiSIM, these devices can directly connect to the mobile net, there is no need for Wifi or Bluetooth.

"After the introduction of the eSIM, Telekom, by allowing customers to share their postpaid subscription among multiple devices with the MultiSIM service, continues constructing the world of network connected devices. Our objective is to provide progressive and innovative technological solutions to our customers that would make their lives easier and more successful" - said Zoltán Pereszlényi, Telekom's Residential Marketing and Sales Management Director.

MultiSIM is not a standalone tariff package or special subscription, instead, it is a service that allows the subscribers to use their existing tariff package with several SIM cards on multiple devices at the same time. Devices that contain SIMs covered by the service, are capable of making or receiving calls and mobile web browsing up to the voice and data usage limit that corresponds to the tariff package within the subscription. The MultiSIM service is available with specific tariff packages, against a monthly fee defined in the tariff tables.

Within the framework of the MultiSIM service, even multiple SIM cards can be ordered for a subscription or tariff package (up to 3 cards including the main one in case of residential customers, and 4 for business customers), which can be eSIMs or traditional SIMs. This way the smart watch, tablet or laptop can be operated as a device with a separate SIM card, without the need for a new subscription or calling number. Later on, according to demand, Telekom will roll out the option to connect further devices.

As a real 21 st century solution, MultiSIM supports using both a technical SIM card and an eSIM, even the two combined. In the eSIM - which was also introduced to the Hungarian market by Telekom as part of a pioneering effort - a virtual SIM profile represents the subscription, instead of a traditional SIM card.

The MultiSIMs will soon be made available to be ordered and managed online, and for lower data usage devices, a special, even more cost efficient solution will be provided. Additionally, Magyar Telekom shall further develop the MultiSIM service in such a way that it would help customers set up real smart home solutions, by connecting thermostats, smart meters and household appliances to the network.

Telekom offers the new Samsung Galaxy Watch with eSIM – in multiple colors and sizes - for those who wish to use a smart watch to test the benefits of the MultiSIM service.
