Mobility and Multimedia Cluster win a bidding procedure

Budapest, March 27, 2008

The Mobility and Multimedia Cluster can elaborate the medium-term Strategic Research Plan and Feasibility Study that will impact the research and development opportunities in the infocommunication industry.

The InnoHost Research and Development Foundation submitted a successful bid on behalf of the 30 founding members of the Mobility and Multimedia Cluster in the program “Support to National Technological Platforms” announced by the National Research and Technology Office (NKTH). NKTH awarded a subsidy to the Mobility and Multimedia National Technological Platform initiative to be founded by the cluster members whereby the members can elaborate the medium-term Strategic Research Plan and Feasibility Study that will impact the research and development opportunities in the infocommunication industry.

The Mobility and Multimedia National Technological Platform will be responsible for the elaboration of a Strategic Research Plan and Feasibility Study for the industry that will enable the Platform to give strategic guidance for the state about the prospective research and development fields that offer a possibility of breakthrough for Hungary.

Additionally the Mobility and Multimedia National Technological Platform defined its mission to proactively represent Hungary in the work of the European National Technological Platforms. “Our view is that active participation in the work of the European National Technological Platforms is particularly important because these are the industrial associations that significantly impact the R+D+I subsidization policy of the European Union, so Hungary needs to participate in this process with greater weight,” – said Gábor Pukler, Chairman of the Cluster, and Business Development Director of Magyar Telekom’s Alternative Businesses and Corporate Development BU.

When elaborating the Strategic Research Plan the Mobility and Technological Platform will primarily address the medium-term opportunities of the following target areas for research:

  • Improving the efficiency of interconnection of fixed and wireless networks
  • Intelligent user interfaces and interactions
  • Integration possibilities of digital media systems

“This is a big challenge, but this Platform will give us the opportunity through efficient cooperation between the industry and state professionals and joint constructive efforts to have a positive impact on the medium-term future of a large slice of the infocommunication industry in Hungary. The preparatory work that acts as catalyst for R+D+I cooperation in the industry was started in early 2008 on behalf of the cluster and the successes achieved so far confirm our view that we can further enlarge our opportunities and strengthen our mission through this Platform,” declared Gábor Pukler.
