HUF 2.5 million for healing cancer

Budapest, October 30, 2000

On October 30, Gyula Szabó, Head of Matáv's Corporate Contributions Sponsorship Department presented a HUF 2.5 million donation to Dr. Emil Farkas, Chairman of the Tumor Surgery Foundation. The Foundation will use the donation to buy a hand-held gamma probe for the National Oncology Institute.

In Western Europe and the United States there is a long-standing tradition of large corporations' social responsibility. Matáv wants to introduce this tradition to Hungary. It regularly gives donations to various health and social organizations in need of help. The company is focusing on 7 key donation target areas (curing cardiovascular diseases, health promotion programs, therapy for communication problems, sporting activities of the disadvantaged, cultural initiatives of disadvantaged towns, treatment of children's health and social problems, support for helpline services) and donates annually increasing amounts to charity - this year more than HUF 50 million.

Matáv's Board of Trustees for Donations awarded HUF 2.5 million to the Tumor Surgery Foundation for healing tumorous diseases. The Foundation will use the donation to buy a hand-held gamma probe for the National Oncology Institute which is indispensable in surgery to remove lymph nodes.

The donation check was presented on October 30 by Gyula Szabó, Head of Matáv's Corporate Contributions Sponsorship Department to Dr. Emil Farkas, Chairman of the Tumor Surgery Foundation in the National Oncology Institute.
