Telekom awarded companies committed for sustainability

This year for the first time Magyar Telekom made the DELFIN Award available to all companies operating in Hungary, and awarded not only its suppliers but also other applying companies, demonstrating outstanding commitment for sustainability. The DELFIN Award (an acronym, in Hungarian standing Prize for a Committed, Sustainable and Innovative Generation) was handed over already for the sixth time, in three categories.

On June 21 in a festive event at the 14th Sustainability Round Table the DELFIN Award founded by Magyar Telekom was handed over. Through the award Magyar Telekom acknowledges companies which demonstrate outstanding commitment for sustainable development and exemplary performance in that area.

Interpower Kft. received the award in category „Implemented Innovation in the Interest of Sustainability”. In the field of telecommunication appliances operating with direct current the solution developed by Interpower pays special attention to environmental protection and energy efficiency issues. Resulting from this innovation almost 2000 MWh energy can be saved, saving Magyar Telekom from releasing 1240 tons of CO 2

In category „Supporting equal chances, promoting discrimination-free practices both within and outside the company” the jury awarded two prizes. One of the winners, the Handicapped Communication Institute. In Hungary the Institute is not unique though regarding its services rendered to enable obstacle-free communication, however the related product used in e-commerce sales is unique. The public benefit, non-profit micro enterprise operates a webshop (ValueIsland) selling services and related tools developing the communication of handicapped and supporting them in promoting equality of chances. The other award was won by Job HR Consulting Kft. Division RehabJob ( www.rehabjob.hu) renders services that enable and promote the integration of those with changed working abilities, supporting the recruitment activities of employers, matching demand and supply and offering „down to earth” professional assistance to employers.

In category „Sustainability Education and Training” the main prize was awarded to Wagner Solar Hungária Kft. The company’s mission is to promote using renewable energy sources to residents of Pest county, and to provide information to anyone interested about different technical solutions, possible applications, advantages and disadvantages of different tools. The training activity of the Wagner Solar Academy established by the company, their active participation at residential forums, consultation and their online reading and monitoring system are unique in Hungary.

Representatives of Magyar Telekom and jury members handed over the awards jointly to category winners. Jury members included Ernő Simon (business journalist), Dr. György Pataki (Budapest Corvinus University), Péter Bodó (Association of Conscious Consumers), Bence György (TV2) and Katalin Szomolányi (Magyar Telekom). The Sustainability Round Table talks organised by Magyar Telekom annually promotes open dialogue between the company and stakeholders. The event was first organised by the company in 1997, this was the 14th occasion.
