Press Releases

Expired phone cards can be returned until 30. September

Budapest, September 20, 2000

Simultaneously with the implementation of the new HUF-based phone cards, MATÁV has phased out from circulation the old pulse-based phone cards. The old "pulse unit" cards will be re-purchased, or replaced with new HUF-based cards, by MATÁV until 30 September.

MATÁV launched its HUF-based Eurochip II cards in May 1999. The old 50 and 120-unit, pulse-based phone cards were valid until 30 September 1999. After the old phone cards expired, Matáv offered the option of replacing or re-purchasing the pulse-unit cards for a one-year period, from October 1, 1999 to September 30, 2000.

Based on the requests of customers, MATÁV will re-purchase the 20 and 50-unit phone cards at a price of HUF 16 per pulse, and the 120-unit cards at HUF 15 per pulse. If the customer buys a new phone card, MATÁV will value the old card at an increased price of HUF 20 per pulse.

Expired cards can be handed in personally at the Matáv Pont shops, the Matáv Pont retailers, the designated customer service offices of the LTOs, and the Phone Card Center (1055 Budapest, Szent István krt. 11.).
