Matáv receives a US innovation award

Budapest, May 22, 2002

In 2002, Matáv was ranked third among several hundreds of applicants for the “Wharton Infosys Business Transformation Award”. The award was received by Zoltán Werle, Head of Matáv’s Procurement Directorate on May 16 in Paris, at the ceremony held in the Versailles Palace.

The US-based IT company Infosys and the Wharton Innovation Center of Pennsylvania University founded a joint award for the companies achieving the best results in the creative application of modern technologies. (Pennsylvania University is one of the most famous universities of the USA and is ranked among the best five of the nearly 1000 universities offering MBA courses.) The dynamics of business processes, innovation skills, application of new paradigms and principles are taken into consideration when the prize is awarded.

In 2002, Matáv was recommended to the attention of the jury by US Internet expert Esther Dyson. The jury consists of renowned experts, the top executives of the Wharton Training Center, Infosys, Office Depot, UPC and other large companies. Based on their request Matáv gave a presentation on the Company’s general position, its results and the components of its electronic procurement processes. Matáv, applying for this award for the first time, was included among the best of the several hundred non-US candidates. At the ceremony held in Paris, the award was received on behalf of Matáv by Mr. Zoltán Werle.

In the past years, Matáv has received numerous professional and social awards. The Global Telecommunication Award of the Financial Times as well as the Innovation Award of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Water Management are among the most outstanding of these. Matáv was considered by the Budapest Stock Exchange as the Best Stock Market Issuer in 1998, and qualified in the same year also as Corporate Donor of the Year. In 1999 Matáv won an award as the Central European Corporate of the Decade. The Wharton award was presented on May 16, 2002.
